Characteristics

YDN5158 is a highly butylated melamine-formaldehyde resin with good solubility and rapid curing reaction at low temperatures. It can react well with hydroxyl, carboxyl, and amide functional groups under weakly acidic conditions.

YDN5158 has high solid content, low foaming, excellent solubility, fast low-temperature curing reaction, low baking weight loss, low formaldehyde odor, good adhesion, salt spray resistance, and weather resistance.

YDN5158 is completely soluble in most alcohols, polyols, ether alcohols, ketones, lipids, aromatic compounds, and chlorinated solvents. It is partially soluble in ethanol, aliphatic hydrocarbons, and nitro solvents, but insoluble in water. However, its solubility can be increased by mixing with 40/60, 30/70, and 20/80 water/ethanol blends.

YDN5158 is compatible with most long, medium, and short oil alkyd resins, polyester resins, acrylics, epoxy resins, cellulose and low molecular weight polyols. It is also compatible with most anionic water-based resins, but its low water tolerance restricts the use of most water-based resins.

YDN5158 requires weak acid catalyst for curing reaction and needs to be baked at a general temperature of 125℃ or higher for 20 minutes. Catalyst is not needed if baking at low temperature or for a shorter time, but it may be added to accelerate the reaction.
